itch.io adds collection editing and Proton support to its app
The October itch app update lets players manage collections in the app and create Steam shortcuts for Windows games running through Proton on Linux.
itch.io's October 6 app update adds collection editing and expands Steam shortcuts. It updates the desktop app, rather than a particular game.
Players can add a game to multiple collections through the app, create a collection and reorder or remove entries in bulk. Collection changes synchronize automatically. For someone keeping a list of short games to try later, that removes a trip through the embedded browser just to organize the list.
What changed for Linux players
The Steam shortcut tool can now create shortcuts that run Windows games through Proton in Steam. itch.io describes a workflow where a player installs a Windows game through itch and adds it to Steam for launch through Proton.
The announcement does not establish that every Windows game will work on every Linux device, so a specific game's compatibility still needs checking.
Keep discovery and compatibility separate
Collections answer the question of what you want to play next. Platform support answers whether that game can run on your device. A small puzzle can be a desktop download just as easily as a browser game, so inspect the platform information on its own project page before installing it.
On TAPA GAME, the games linked from the lobby run in the browser. A useful habit across both kinds of library is to keep a short list organized by the session you want: a logic puzzle for a quiet break, a quick arcade round or a longer strategy match. The new collection tools give itch app users another way to maintain that list.
